- I am a player who wants to play overseas how much money can I make?
That depends on your skills, your reputation and what country you
are in. We would have to see a video of you and talk to some of your coaches. The
range can be from $10,000 to $100,000. But only the very elite players with a great
deal of international experience will make the top salaries.
- I represent a team and I am interested in seeing a video of one
of your players. What do I do?
Please request a password by e-mailing
steve@simgratton.com. Please include your team name, your country and a contact
phone number.
- What is the level of play like in Europe?
That depends on the league. Some leagues are about the level of
the Canadian university league and in others the level is so high the top teams
would beat most national teams. After evaluating your skills, we would attempt to
place you in a league where you would be successful but also challenged.
- I am not representing a team, how do I get a password so that I can
view some of the videos?
Unfortunately, as bandwidth can be expensive, the video section
is only for teams who are serious about signing one of our players.
- Do you only represent Canadian players?
No, we will represent high level players from other countries as
well.
- When I click on a link to view a video it is choppy.
Your connection is not fast enough to view the video as it is downloading.
You should right click on the video and choose “save target as”. Save the file to
your computer and then double click on the file to view it. It will play more smoothly
that way.
- When the video is downloading it says the download will take over 2
hours.
In order to provide high quality video we had to make the files
size large.
- I am in my third year of university and I would like to play pro overseas.
We will not represent university players until after they graduate,
unless there are very special circumstances eg. the player is no longer academically
eligible to pursue university studies or we are approached by the player’s coach.
- In which languages can you provide service?
Currently we can provide services in French, German and English.
We are working on being able to provide service in Spanish, Italian and Russian.
- Can you explain all the European cups and championships?
Basically there are four: Champions League, Top Teams Cup, CEV
Cup and European Championships.
The first three: Champions League, Top Teams Cup and CEV Cup are all inter-country
leagues or tournaments. The top teams play in these in addition to competing
in their own national leagues. If you are one of the best teams from the year before
you will qualify for one of these leagues or tournaments.
Champions League is the top league. It consists of the top teams from the top leagues.
Top Teams Cup is a separate tournament which usually consists of the #2 place team
from the top countries.
CEV Cup is yet another tournament. This one is comprised (usually) of the
third or fourth place team from each of the top countries.
European Championships is a tournament that is comprised of all the national teams
from each country.
- What is the length of the season?
The typical European season begins sometime between August and
October and ends sometime between March and May. The duration of the season depends
entirely on the country, the team, and the playoff schedule for each particular
league.
- How many foreign players can play on a team?
Normally, two or three foreign players are permitted on any one
team. There are countries, however, that have an unlimited number of foreign spots.
(Examples include: Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Spain). In addition, if
a player has played in the same country for a number of years he can become “naturalized”
and will not be included in the number of foreign players allowed. When possible,
SIM Gratton Inc. will always try to place two players from the same country on the
same team.
- What happens if I get injured?
In the event of a season-ending injury, your professional contract
will sometimes include some type of formal health insurance that will pay your salary
while they bring in another player. However, most teams terminate your contract
in order to replace you with a healthy player.
If your injury is minor, local doctors, physical therapists, and athletic trainers
will be equipped to treat you at the team's expense.
